If I claim to be a wise man, it only means that I don't know
There's a woman I met who insists that I must say "good morning", "hello", or otherwise greet her every time I see her or we cross paths. Because it's the polite thing to do, and so eventually I gave in and started doing so. Then I saw her today and it hit me, I don't agree with that perspective at all. What's the point of greeting someone if you're not interested in initiating some sort of conversation?
I don't talk just to talk, I talk either to express myself or to make a point. So to me, a simple "good morning" serves no purpose. Now, if I actually wanted to talk to a person, that's different. I'm more than glad to say hello. I also enjoy it if a person addresses me before they speak to me, it makes communication much less problematic.
Maybe that's the difference between generations. I don't believe in doing things the "polite" way for the sake of being polite. I think I should do things because that's the way I feel they should be done or because that's the way I feel about it.
Nothing else should try to chain me down, and I shouldn't have to conform to their personal rules. I don't expect anyone to conform to mine. But that's just me. Anyways, for now, I'm gonna go. I'm a busy working man after all, you know. Only 6 hours and 20 minutes left....yay. I've effectively killed a good hour and a half.
Something more coming later? We'll see.
